THE PRINCIPAL ROSCOE LINES NOW IN BRITAIN An equally important objective is to encourage Roscoes in the British Isles and elsewhere to participate and trace their lines back through Lancashire, Cornwall, Cheshire, Durham, Glamorgan, and so on -- wherever the trail may lead -- as far back as possible. We expect our testing program will likely show several separate and genetically unrelated Roscoe lines developing in different parts of the country, rather than a single line with branches throughout the country. We need to identify the different Roscoe families in England and the British Isles, and to obtain tests that will determine which of these Roscoe lines are descended from a common ancestor, how closely they are related, and, if possible, which may have given rise to the others, and where they came from. The 1891 England census shows Roscoe-variation residents as follows: 2,248 Roscoe - Lancashire 72 % (1,624 / 2,248) -- northwest coast of England Cheshire 11% (257 / 2,248) - adjoining Lancashire on the south London 4% (91 / 2,248) Yorkshire 4% (88 / 2,248) - adjoining Lancashire on the west Cornwall 1% (28 / 2,248) - southwest corner tip of England 365 Roscow - Lancashire 90 % (329 / 365). Durham 3% (11 / 365) -- northeast of Lancashire on East Coast of England 42 Rascoe - Cornwall 33 % (14 / 42) Lancashire 31 % (13 / 42) Glamorgan 10%. 6 Rosco - Lancashire 50 % (3 / 6) 2 Rasco - Cumberland 1 (northwest) Dorset 1 (south central) So for the 2,661 Rasco-variation families combined, we have Lancashire 74 % (1,969 / 2,661) Fifty years earlier the 1841 England census shows Roscoe distributions in these counties: Roscoe 668 Lancashire 452 Cheshire 112 Yorkshire 13
